Cellular IP gateways are designed for devices using built-in legacy operating systems that do not support Ethernet or TCP/IP networks. In other words, cellular IP gateways offer a method of transmitting data over TCP/IP networks. If your applications need to access remote devices from a central location via the Internet or a cellular network, then using a cellular IP gateway will allow you to integrate TCP/IP architecture and wireless cellular technology.
Cellular IP Gateways vs. Cellular Modems
The difference between using a cellular IP gateway and a cellular modem is how host PCs connect to the device. With a cellular IP gateway, the host PC can connect directly to the device using TCP/IP. With a cellular modem, the host PC requires a separate modem to establish the connection.
